Windshield Distortion

Hey everyone,

I've had my C-HR for a week now. Got it at Lipton Toyota in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

I love this car, it feels like a breath of fresh air after driving a Tacoma for a couple of years.

There is one slight issue (at least for my OCD). The windshield has a wavy distortion all across the glass, which becomes more noticeable when looking at objects far away.

I just had the dealer look at it, and they agreed. However, every C-HR on their lot has the same issue. It doesn't impair my driving, but it is annoying.

Dealer says they highly doubt there will be a recall since the car is new, only time will tell. Worse case scenario, I can get a free windshield from the insurance, but if all OEM windshields are the same then it won't make a difference.

I highly suggest you take a close look at your windshield if you just bought one or if you are test driving one.

Again, it doesn't affect my driving, but it's like nails on a chalkboard to my eyes lol.

Cheers

I haven't noticed this, from driving quite a few C-HRs now. I'll try to notice it next time!
Polishing won't do much if the glass is inherently wavy. That's an odd oversight from Toyota and I agree with the dealer, they won;t recall it unless the glass could cause an accident down the road.

What insurance are you with if they're willing to cover glass replacement?

State Farm.

But, the "free" windshield is due to Florida law, which requires any insurance company to give people with comprehensive coverage, a new windshield free of deductible payment, if the windshield is damaged or impairs driving.

I had a 2013 Camaro that got a slight scratch on the windshield, nothing catastrophic, but the insurance changed it for free. I had Allstate at that time.
But even if they're all the same, it'll be pointless to change it like you said
Wind shield issues in UK

You should take a look on the UK forum, there are now 20 + owners who have wind shield cracked inside right hand top corner. We are a friendly bunch not just members from the UK, but all over Europe and some Aussies.

It won't let me post the link to the UK forum, but if you search under chrforums uk on google you find it, once on the page you'll see the topic under faults

Yes, I'm glad you brought the subject up, as I've followed the cracking windshield issue on the other forum for weeks, with new trepidation about getting the C-HR...I must say, everyone has dealt with this issue in a very mannerly and understanding way, although it must be gut wrenching to have this type of problem right from the beginning, in many cases! I'm heartened to see that most of the affected owners still love their C-HR despite this issue and I'll be getting one soon...

Nevertheless, according my Toyota dealer, in the Netherlands this problem has not yet occurred
milky bar windscreen

My windscreen was like when they look into the past in a movie and it goes all milky lol. It almost looked tinted brown.

Then it went BANG on the motorway and cracked. I now have a new perfectly clear screen that has made me feel like I was drunk for the previous 3 weeks. Im prone to headaches and dizzyness anyway (horrific previous brain injury) but this probably didnt help and I felt more unwell than normal.

They are now doing a recall I think and Im sure as a safety/liability point they dont want you getting into trouble after you have reported it.

They may be resisting right now as there is a shortage of supplies. Its so much nicer to drive now I can see perfectly.

Toyota also covered my alloys and tyres in chemicals im allergic too. So heres a pic of my lightweight wheeled car as I try to enjoy what is a great car to drive.

Economy up 3-6mpg
Torque up 10percent
Weight down lots
Looks, subjective :)

Hey, this is super scary for a new car.
I just bought the car this moth, registered on the forum, started reading the posts and now I see there's some really annoying stuff ahead of me. :-(
No, no distortion on mine. But I can't wait for the windshield to crack.

Id bet if you dont have distortion you wont get the crack.

With my new screen the wipers dont wobble/stick and my rain sensors work properly. It was definately a screen fault not a car fault.
That's real weird.. maybe they just had a bad batch of windshields that got installed and nobody really noticed it?
I could copy & paste the first post from this thread. I bought my C-HR in Poland and I do have the same problems with the windshield. My dealer also agreed the problem exists and it existed also in other C-HRs we checked together. They didn't notice that until I told them so it's probably the most ppl don't see it - maybe it depends on how tall a driver is, the seat position etc.

Indeed it's annoying:/
Can you clarify regarding driver height, do they have to be tall or short?
Mad can you confirm that the distortion is more noticeable to tall or short drivers?

I'm one of the other forums posters that now has cracks in both corners, so UK drivers side AND US drivers :surprise:

What size are the wheels you're running and tire sizes as well? Looks real darn good in my opinion! Nice!!
