Think Scion will make the iR a single trim vehicle like the iA and iM in order to keep costs down?
I think it would be a great idea as the single trim included a lot of perks that other automotive companies charge people for.
Most likely. Scion seems to be the testing company for Toyota when it comes to the single trim and the Scion iM's popularity is testament to how effective that was.
And I'm hoping to get all of those options for a lower price.
That is Scion's business model, monospec trims. And so far it seems to be a winning strategy, had a look at what first iA owners had to report back and it's been nothing but positive feedback.
Nope. Both the iA and the iM does not come with heated seats and it's not listed as an option either. Hopefully they'll be watching forums like these and take our feedback for future model improvements. Granted Scion will want to be affordable but it'll still have to compete with other vehicles that has a few more options available.
Just took a look at the non single trim models Scion has and the extra heated seats are around 2k. If they actually build it into the iR single trim we could see a minimal price increase for a great perk.
That and it should still be geared towards keeping them competitive in the market, and due to the desperation to get Scion off the ground, it will make them a bit more competitive.
At least make it the Standard in Canada if nothing else. It gets cold up here and I'm sure it'll be very popular if included in the single trim. Right now Scion isn't too popular here so if they want to be competitive they need to adjust to our market and what we need.
It seems to be a strategy that works for them, don't think that's something they need to change, instead they could probably make those single trims more attractive when timing is right.
We could see other automotive companies coming out with single trim models too. The Scion test seems to be a success so other could very well jump onto the band wagon. Not sure which other brand could possibly do this.
Other companies might not have done it for the reason it might tap into their competitive edge and profits. The ability to make a vehicle cheaper is attractive and mono-spec vehicles make it harder.
You do make a good point. The other brands I can think of needs trim options to make themselves competitive. What other automotive brand is similar to Scion?
Will Scion add more to the iR's single trim to make it more competitive even at the risk of raising the price a bit? I'm willing to pay a bit more for options that are usually expensive in luxury brands.
Hoping Scion would give the interior a more luxurious feel but not sure if they have the incentive to do so. If they keep the price low enough with the same standard options as the iM and iA then they won't have that many competition.
I guess that means the iR isn't a partnership with Mazda, the grille doesn't look like the ones on Mazda cars nor does it look like the one from the iA.
Was just hoping... Scion didn't have Mazda's help with the iM design and IMO it came pretty ugly but the iA looks great.
We'll see if the Scion iR looks anything like it's concept. If not, the single trim will need quite a few perks to attract people along with the low price point.
iM design was based off of the Auris, came from a Toyota design house. But to me it looks great, no complaints with it and having seen them on the road, design is only growing on me. So far Scion is proving themselves more and more that they're worthy of GOOD designs.
I'm thinking that the base model will not include tons, but enough that it isn't bare bones either. They will want to make it possible to buy at a relatively inexpensive price while still providing basic features. Options will be few still, but those things will be the stuff that not everyone wants/needs and can be taken out to keep things cheap.
Tough to say what exactly will be optional but like mentioned before, looking at how they spec'd out other models they already sell is a good way to gauge it and get a sense for the range of choices.
Took a look at the Rav 4 build page for comparison and you either have the standard package or the upgrade package for certain trims and then there is a whole list of accessories. No idea what the standard package includes. Hope they go into more detail for the C-HR.
The CH-R being a vehicle that underpins the Rav4 it should be natural to expect packages that don't include as much, some that people can say is watered down since they have to have that divide going on.
I hope that they follow the lead of the iA and have automatic emergency braking included.
