Replacement horn?

Sorry for the rant and I know this is trivial... But I feel like I'm driving a Yugo or a Tata every time I honk my horn. I'm actually kind of embarrassed lol. Not even sure someone else driving could hear the thing. Can I replace the oem horn with say a Ford F-350 horn or something with a little more balls without compromising the circuit? It's sub zero here and I'm not even sure where the horn is in the engine compartment... Would it be easy to swap it out if there is no contraindications for the install... I know I'm being anal...

Had the same.. and have replaced it. You have to remove the front bumper to get access to the horn. Electrical it dont need much you can use same 2 wires.

Agree 100%. I received my replacement horn yesterday, and hopefully I'll do the install this weekend or following. Purchased a Stebel Nautilus Compact Mini Air Horn Black (LINK). As well as a harness, since I rather run the new horn from the battery and not risk the OEM wiring (I'll use the OEM wiring only to cycle the harness relay)

Glad I'm not the only one... Dutch-r- which horn did you purchase? I don't really need an air horn... Just something plug and play that is compatible with existing wiring. Thanks all!
Also a Stebel Nautilus compact as mentioned.. used the original wiring (only grounded it seperate) and also upgraded now a fuse to 20A. (15A blew when used for more as 5 sec.) Now it works great!!

What is with Toyota and their "wimpy" horns? Had to upgrade my horn in my RAV4. Does that horn fit in the C-HR? Had to find a place in my RAV4.
Need to find either a video or someone has a photo write-up on how to remove the front bumper.

I'll give this a try next weekend. Good time to install an aluminum radiator guard, while installing a better horn.. Have on on my 2010 RAV4.
Lol anyone who's owned a Toyota knew this issue would arise with the CH-R. Does anyone have any sound clips of the aftermarket horns that they have installed? And that air horn must get a lot of attention coming from a CH-R aha.
1. Go to Youtube
2. Type in ´stebel nautilus´ and perform a search
3. click video
4. Put your sound on and listen.

:wink2:
That's one way to lose your hearing. :D May as well get one of those fun train horns if you're going for the stebel nautilus.
Sometimes the answer is just a Google/Youtube search away.. ;)

Anyhow. you need to remove the bumper to access the original horn wiring. A stebel nautilus makes the rest simple.
I wish we had the Stebel and not the Wolo (lol) ones we have here in the States. The Wolo brand looks like Chinese knockoffs compared to the Stebel brand.
Looks like it is off to Amazon I go.
Some people I know from the Subaru communities live by the Hella Horns, some even put them into cars aside from Subaru's. Apparently its a mostly Subaru-only thing. Might be a cool horn to add to the CH-R.
I want a horn that plays Toto's "africa" ...

that's a door chime - I want the horn!

But yeah that's super cool haha. You'd drain your battery just sitting there listening "I bless the rains down in Africa"
Hi all!

Just got a 2019 CH-R and wow that horn! Has anyone made a how to video for the horn replacement? I'm not a super handy person when it comes to car repairs, and videos tend to help me out.

Thanks

Hi all. I just recently changed the single tiny horn to a dual tone Farbin horns (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TSPHC2J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). For bumper removal, I wish I found this site earlier: https://www.tochr.net/1235/removal.html. TIP: after you remove the screws/fasteners from the wheel wells (step 2), slip you fingers between the liner and the fender panel. You have to feel for the retainer clips to press them to slide the trim out. Also, I did not remove the 6 front lower screws. I just disengaged the bumper from the sides and top. For access to the horn, all you have to do remove the right screw only on the plastic cover (https://www.tochr.net/1316/horn.html). Then reach in with the wrench to unbolt the horn and disconnect the power.

Wiring the new horn is up to your preference. I combined the ground wires to a loop connector to be bolted to the frame with the horn assembly. Then I combined the power wires to a spade connector that slips into the existing horn power connector and wrapped it up with electrical tape. I did not use a relay or upgrade the fuse. I hope this helps. Sorry, I didn’t take any pics.

The horn is very loud now and sounds great. It sounds similar to the horn on a VW Tiguan.
