Modified C-HR’s Appears At The Tokyo Auto Salon

We’ve already seen renderings of heavily modified C-HRs from Modellista and Toyota Racing Development (TRD). Now we have live shots of them straight from this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon courtesy of Jalopnik.

Taking place earlier this month from the 13th to the 15th, the Tokyo Auto Salon is a place for exhibitors to dress up their cars and showcase the plethora of accessories and products available for those cars. In Toyota’s case, taking center stage at the Japanese manufacturer’s booth was a fleet of design prototype from the likes of Gazoo Racing, Modellista, TRD, and styleWB.

Gazoo Racing showcased a Red GT C-HR alongside its liveried sibling. Then we have what seems to be TRD’s Extreme Style C-HR with distinctive red mud flaps and another prototype with their Aggressive Style package. Not to be left out, Modellista brought along their Boost Impulse Style C-HR featuring a unique V-shaped grille.

What we haven’t seen until now is styleWB’s prototype of the C-HR in porcelain white. The same guys who gave us the StyleMB Sienta Puffalump last year has smoothed out the C-HR’s bumper with bespoke face plates and the headlamps seems to have been extended to jut out from the sides.

Which prototype do you all prefer?

I really actually like the Red GT that they have there. Nothing too extreme but it looks pretty clean. The color looks amazing in that light as well. Would need a slight bit more low though. The rims I could live with but I would eventually use them for winter and buy a different set for summer.

I find the one from StyleMB somewhat appealing, mostly with the extended headlights as it reminds me of transformers. Would look better if the fog lights were larger so the front isn't as smooth and uniform.
Widebody kit on the Will I Am Lexus NX is a good example of what can work on the CH-R. Design of both vehicles in OEM form are very similar and there's no doubt in my mind that this will work well in terms of how it looks in the end and how it sells:

The front end of the Will.I.Am NX looked alright, but holy moly that rear end is hideous.

It reminds me of some odd helmet, but isn't that on a Lexus and not a C-HR? That rear may actually work better on the C-HR which has more ridges for it to blend into.
As much as the C-HR has more aggressive ridges and lines put into it, These are the areas I feel will still make it look pretty darn weird. Personally not a big fan of it at all.

I think this is the best C-HR side profile photo I've seen so far

It's the little things like the red trim on the side skirt matching the calipers that completes a look. I may even want to paint the stock ones red, fairly affordable and not too hard to do.

Now that's a prime example of why I always advocate for side splitters and front splitters since it creates a look as simple and effective as what we see here.

With how cheap the C-HR is, odds are we'll see a lot of aftermarket aero show up even from knock off brands like Extreme Dimensions.
