CHR Lane Assist tries to kill me.

I have a 2020/2021 CHR GR
On Wet nights the Lane assist tries to kill me. It is seeing phantom lanes and pulls the steering to either the Left or RIGHT.
Last time it did this it pulled me into oncoming traffic.
There is no way to have this feature permanently turned off, You can only turn it off when you power up the car. The older software does allow this feature to be turned off.
This is a new feature added to the new software in the car. Eg 2.5x

The dealer i purchased the car from does not care. Toyota have just washed there hands as well.

FYI the Lane assist does thin with or without Cruse control on.

Push and hold the button on the steering wheel for about 5 seconds. It turns it off for good and won't turn back on until you push the button again in the future. I have mine turned off and has been since I bought my car 3 months ago.

That sounds like you have the old bains installed. Eg pre 2.5

Can you let me know what software rev you have and country.
Idk what software I have, but pretty sure it's new. Mine is a 2021, usdm model, Nightshade edition. I just know that I can't stand the lane centering and lane assist and all that beeping at me all the time if I just get close to a line, so I have it all turned off by just pushing and holding the button, and it doesn't ever turn back on until I physically push the button again, which I never do. My wife's 2021 Camry SE is the same way. It has all the same "safety features " we have, and if you push and hold the button for about 5 seconds, it turns it off and it won't turn back on even if you stop and restart the car.

I would love the Lane Assist to be sticky.
I have the 2021 C-HR GR model. It is an Australian model. 2021 Toyota C-HR GR Sport: Australian debut due late November | CarAdvice

This model have the latest Bain's that have all the safety features hard coded to be on by default so they can get their AMCAP rating. (what dealer told me.)
It would be nice to have a firmware that allowed it to be turned off. as it is, it is a "kill feature" they have enabled and the only workaround at the moment is turn it off every time you start it up.
It is a shame as the car is good otherwise.

Push and hold what button?

It's this button on mine. If I push it and hold it for about 5 seconds, it turns everything off forever and won't turn back on until I push that button again, even if I turn the ignition off and restart my car.

In the latest Software that only works until you turn the car off. Then it defaults back to on (Kill me mode)
Why would you change the old default to this dumb idea Only toyota knows.

I also dislike that feature. Yet TBH, it has forced me to use my turn signals more often that I normally would.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'd like to advocate in favor of the Lane Assist feature. Provided I use my signal, I never have an issue. I never even know the feature is on. Using the signal is just a common curtesy, more people should do it more often. There are too many self-centered drivers out there that think the road belongs only to them.

Personally, I have only been bothered by the lane assist at some chicanes that are meant to decrease my speed before entering a village.

What you could do is turn off the active steering assist, so you would only get beeps if you cross the line
you can request to have the default setings changed.
T-SB-0059-18
T-SB-0026-20
these are for another model but it shows how the tech can change the default settings to off for any of the auto features

Thank you, thank you, thank you…. I’ve been dealing with this “safety feature” for almost a year and was considering trading it in because of it.
I have a 2021. It works well for me . The one I have , I can change if I want to, buy pushing a button on the steering wheel. But I just let it drive the car,in most cases.
