This seems to be full of technology which is fine but, some posts I have seen, prior to deciding whether to order the car, seem to indicate that you HAVE to have a synched mobile phone in order to operate the system in any degree at all, is this correct please?
It is difficult to get to know your way about the vehicle and its accessories fully during the showroom and test drive time.
Would appreciate some advice.
Thanks.

Depends on what you want to do on the infotainment system, you don't need to sync up a phone for every feature like radio and navigation system if the car comes with one. But if you want to make calls, use the hands-free system and such then you'll have to sync up your mobile device.

They would never produce an infotainment system that requires you to sync a phone in order to make it functional. You'll have all the basic features you regularly would, radio, nav (if supported), time, etc. but you wouldn't be able to do things like hands-free calling, bluetooth streaming music, utilizing apps like Spotify or Pandora, just about anything you would on a smart-phone.
