Toyota has developed a new augmented reality app for the C-HR that will allow customers to get a look at the cars internals. It basically places a graphic overlay on top of physical models in the showroom. Innovations like these will become even more common with new hybrid and electric models to give buyers a better understanding of the platforms.

That's pretty neat technology and a cool way to give first time hybrid owners a more detailed look at how everything works. If only there was a way to make this Xray like tech have the ability to scan and identify problems with a given car.

I just see this as a marketing strategy to pull people into dealerships and nothing more because there's always more you can learn online than in any setting like this. I give Toyota props for coming up with a new innovative way to get feet in the door.

Reading facts and numbers on paper is one thing, but seeing how it works together in real time is something else. Education is an important part of buying into an electric vehicle and new tech like this could serve as a new tool for doing that.

Its more or less a marketing gimmick, but as the technology evolves it could find new uses that it was never originally intended for. Augmented and virtual reality have already found their way into the engineering process, and many automakers are already using them to play with concept designs in real time.
