I have noticed that a lot of newer built 2018 US model C-HR I am seeing with the red center reflector on the lower rear bumper now. Is this an option or now a standard item?
The reflector wasn't installed when I purchased my C-HR. Then I received a recall from toyota and they installed it. I think that is standard now for all C-HR.
I just looked up the part number for the recall/service campaign for the rear bumper garnish that they have on order for my vehicle. It turns out it is the red reflector. My service invoice has the part number of PT938-1C180-03 which matches this pic for the red reflector.
Yeah sadly for the Canadian owners this accessory and the fog lights are optionals even on the premium model. I haven't received any recall for that and when I checked on the website with my vehicle identification number there was no recalls listed. I have sent an email to the Toyota customer service expressing my disappointement and I encourage all Canadian C-HR owners to do that.
So on the Canadian model there is just an empty space where that deflector would fit? I thought this was a mandatory safety feature. I suppose there are deflectors elsewhere on the rear end already. Glad to hear you've reached out for further information, be sure to let us know what Toyota has to say. I'm sure if more Canadian owners expressed the same concern we'd likely see these features as standard in the future.
Yeah just a empty space as you can see on the picture below. I've bought an aftermarket reflector but I will wait if they decide to do the recall. Sorry about the dirty bumper, we just had a snow storm during the weekend.
I did not ask the service person when I made my appointment to have it put on, but do you think they have to do any removal of the rear bumper to add it on or is there the ability to put it on without pulling the bumper?
I saw a video on YouTube for the installation of the aftermarket one and there is two screws behind the bumper, no needing to remove the bumper just the screws that keep it attached.
I got mine put on yesterday. It does indeed have raised "C-HR" on the reflector. It looks like the part is around $65.00 that was being billed back to Toyota on the invoice form.
And for those who don't have it, it's not a reflector. It's just a red lens that snaps into the bumper. I don't know why they considered this a recall item ... other than covering a pocket in the bumper, it does absolutely nothing.
