My gas mileage is not great. How's yours?

I've got a 2019 C-HR Limited I bought at the end of January. I do love driving the car, but one thing really bothers me: the city gas mileage is disappointing.

So far, I've been averaging about 20-22 in the city and about 27-30 on the road. The rating on the 2019 model is 27/31/29. While I'm close to the highway rating, the city rating is really bad.

I'm a fairly conservative streets driver - I can get 60 MPG in my wife's 2017 Prius in the city! - and I live in Houston, which is very flat. I don't think it's my driving style. So I'm wondering if there's something I need to have checked out.

I know that the engine in the C-HR is underpowered for the car, and I wonder if that has something to do with it.

What are your mileage numbers, particularly if you have a 2019 Limited?

Thanks!

And yes, I see AFTER I post that there is a specific gas mileage forum. Sorry. Maybe the moderator can move this thread to that forum? I don't see a way to do that myself.

How long are your trips? How many stops and starts are a part of of your trips? Do you have your drive mode in Eco versus Normal/Sport? Also, you really can't compare mileage between a Prius and the C-HR with the Prius being a hybrid.

With my driving through some of the worst traffic in the country in the DC Metro area, I've been able to average in the mid to higher 20s. On my short trips from my house to the gym or areas around my local Costco, I would see mid to a bit lower 20s. But that's over a 4 or so mile trip.

Also, how many miles are on your car now? I've noticed my mileage has improved over time as the engine breaks in.

I wasn't comparing mileage between the two cars, but rather used what I get when I drive the Prius to illustrate that I'm a mileage-conscious driver. I know what I'm doing, in other words.

Right now I've got ~2,600 miles on it. So yeah, it's still new-ish.

Not to be argumentative, but how you drive a hybrid has no similarities with how you would drive a ICE (internal combustion engine). In city conditions with the potential of many stop and go instances, hybrids shine due to the instant torque provided by the electric motor(s). To get the same level of acceleration from an ICE, you would have to apply much more throttle/gas.

I forget at what mileage where I saw some significant improvement in fuel economy with my car. But I'm about to cross 6000 miles with the car just over 3 months old. I average around 31 to mid 32 MPG with my mix driving that includes miles and miles of stop and go rush hour traffic.

My mileage is definitely getting better. Got 34 MPG on a 50-mile freeway trip the other day, and my in-town mileage is now up in the mid 20s. So I am less annoyed.

Check my signature. Generally I'm okay with it. The worst (20) was when I'm just sitting around city playing Pokemon with the AC full blast since it was summer.

Garage
I average 28 MPG with mostly city driving, and I am a fairly aggressive driver. 45k on the clock right now
