Aus. Market Toyota CH-R Engine

During the launch of the 2017 Toyota C-HR, the Australian market will only be receiving one engine variant.

The Australian market will be getting the 1.2L Turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline powered engine that produces 114hp (85kW) and 136lb-ft (185Nm) of torque.

Australia will have the option for AWD or FWD configurations however.

There will be two trim levels sold. The higher trim level will be called "Koba" - named after the car's global chief engineer, Hiroyuki Koba.

The 2017 Toyota C-HR is set to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of next year.

those torque numbers are good especially when applied in the AWD model, but i'm still going to be on the look out for a dyno chart showing the power band since i'm a bit concerned of how power is distributed.

I'm pretty sure it'll be majority bottom end. The main thing especially when having a small engine in this size of a vehicle is to get it moving initially. The turbo should should hit peak boost quite early and that's pretty much it.

114hp doesn't seem like a lot, but then again the C-HR isn't meant to be a performance vehicle even if it looks aggressive.

Not really looking at a performance perspective but more of a have enough power to haul the weight and hope the trans doesn't give out

In that case then you have to look at the power band and see how power is distributed as well as how much weight we're dealing with here and what is really required of it to get going and be satisfactory on local roads and highways. It will come down to actually getting behind the wheel.

The 1.2T engine fits the C-HR really well. I've driven it multiple times in the FWD version, and it's a bit sportier than the hybrid.

The Auris (Corolla iM in Europe) has already been using this engine for a few years now, and so far it's a stable engine. Although the C-HR is built on the TNGA platform, and it handles the 1.2T engine a lot better.
Although it's never going to be among the fastest machines on the road ;-)

Welcome to the forum! Interesting to hear that the 1.2T model is sportier than the hybrid, always thought the electric motors would give it more low end torque for launches and accelerating out of turns.
