The first R-Tuned C-HR

I don't know if you guys saw this one off race tuned CH-R but its packing some series upgrades to performance. They swapped in a 2.4 liter turbo four (Toyota;s 2AZ-FE) and a five speed manual tranny. Its making a claimed 350 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. The build apparently took more than 10,000 hours of labor as almost every component has been swapped out.

The CVT transmission is the week component in the C-HR. Unless yours is manual there is no sense building up the motor. You will not be able to put any significant power down through CVT. And manuals are not even available in North America.

All cars are transitioning towards CVT's, its the most efficient way to increase fuel economy and reduce emissions. I highly doubt we'll see a manual CH-R, regardless of the region

Asia and Eu have manual options, diesel or gas turbo as well. They also have a 4 wheel drive hybrid.

An AWD model should have been offered internationally. Though it seems the front wheel drive set up is fairly capable in the snow. I'm not sure that the CH-R is selling in enough volume in North America to warrant any expansions to the options list.

Just came across this video that shows the R tuned C-HR in action. Pretty impressive that it set one of the fastest track times seen at Willow Springs International Raceway, quicker than all but five production cars.

Shame that his model is basically running an entirely different powertrain. Would have like to see what could have been accomplished with a new ECU tune and some aftermarket performance mods. That being said, its great to see that there's interest in the modification of crossovers. Wonder what this build cost all things said and done.
