Screen backing

I got to check out a C-HR at my local (Canadian) dealership.

I look inside and the first thing to catch my eye is the piece behind the screen. Had not seen it in any photos.

I grabbed a C-HR brochure on the way out, and there it is again in an image. Is it a new addition?

Could be some sort of option they have available for it. I don't like it though as it looks like something just installed with 3m adhesive with the gaps all around it. Is it something that you're looking into obtaining? Perhaps asking the dealership and they could provide some insight.

Infotainment screens without navigation and satteliteradio have that cap behind.

looks like they added it to allow for double-DIN installation.
i like it since it will allow for aftermarket upgrades.

dutCH-R pretty much answered the question, the next step is to see if the dealership has a way to make that cap match the dash. It's not the best looking and I can't think of any diy method of fixing it.
